Free radicals have been linked to many things, including high blood pressure, nothing new I here you say. However a team of researchers here in the UK have found what they believe to be a link between the disruption of a key protein which regulates blood pressure and high levels of free radicals.

This protein in question is called angiotensinogen, which plays a key part in your body's regulation of blood pressure. Whilst it follows that anitioxidants may help prevent this, what is unclear from articles I have read is whether they have the ability to help after it has been damaged. Though one article suggests:

'It means that all elevations in blood pressure are due to a lack of antioxidant function that results in compromised angiotensinogen. In the simple case this means that at the first signs of elevating blood pressure antioxidants should be increased. It also means that boosting antioxidant intake will help resolve any blood pressure problem.'

There is still much research to be done, but in the meantime I'm sticking with my MonaVie, high in antioxidants and it tastes good too...
