My kids are already starting to say what they want for Christmas, bombarded by the media they have expressed interest in everything from furry hampsters in attach suits to the latest DS or Wii game. We have encouraged them to write a list and prioritise them saying that of course neither Santa or your parents can afford to buy you everything off your list.

What is more, when you question them with questions such as why is that important to you, what would you be able to do if you had it, what would you be prepared to give up to have it, etc. many of these items actually drop off the list.

It stuck me that this is akin to goal setting, where you have to prioritise what is really truely important to you, and what each of them will actually give you. So why is it that whilst many of us have our children write such a list, very few of us adults actually go through a process of setting goals and re-evaluating them? If you have not yet set your goals or not recently re-evaluated them, perhaps it is time to take time to do the same.

Napolean Hill said that it was important to identify your major definite purpose (your why), and Zig Ziglar says 'Don't become a wondering generality, but a meaningful specific'. Take the time to set your goals today, you might re-evaluate what's important to you in life, no point wasting your energy on something is actually pushing you away from your goals.
