Background
I have just come back from a seminar run by someone who has achieved great success in network marketing, and joined our organisation a few years back, recognising the amazing opportunity. This seminar was about the tools that already existed in our organisation and how to leverage them.
This article does not cover all that he did, rather it discusses our need to find a suitable pattern that works in this industry or more importantly our organisation and stick to it. How if you really want to succeed you'll take the time out to visit such events when you realise how important they are for your personal and knowledge development.
The Mistakes
The thing is I am humble enough to say I have already made a number of mistakes and I have seen that now, thanks to the time of this helpful gentleman. The price of this seminar you ask yourself, must of cost hundreds, nope - just a fiver and worth the time off work. After all some of my mistakes about being to gung-ho running off in the wrong direction cost me a lot more than £5.
The likes of this presenter and others that talked have already made a great number of mistakes, so you don't have to. One of my favourite lines from this was something like this "Let me tell you this, there are NO new mistakes in this business, everything has been done before many times, but it is your choice whether you choose to repeat those of old or to learn how not to make them".
He then went on to explain how in this industry a great number of people don't survive because they make some big mistakes, it doesn't gain any traction and how they fail to sponsor someone, and if they do they are doing that right either and hence won't be successful. If you're lucky you may have a team who are sponsoring people, but you're all still doing the wrong things and still not being very successful.
Why Don't People Follow The System?
If someone has been vastly successful and has sought to provide you the knowledge of his success, why don't people follow it? Especially when they first come into the organisation and think they know best and how they know the way to make it. For me there are a number of reasons, lets look at them in turn.
Believing That Network Marketing Operates The Same
If you do not understand the fundamentals of network marketing, you like many others will assume it is just a variation on the more traditional way of doing business. This is a major mistake as you seek to apply your knowledge of marketing, sales, and other areas that will simply be costly and counter productive.
You must learn the key drivers for success in our business, they are not the same and this will save you a lot of heart ache.
Not Aware of the Wheel
So many new distributors are not aware of the wheel even existing, so they are not aware they are reinventing it. Sounds obvious really, but your sponsor should be going through with you the toolsets that are available, how to use them and when to use them. These toolsets in our organisation are very good value for money and you could not really achieve the same without them.
If your sponsor has not made you aware of the toolsets available then you need to go off and make time to discover them for yourself.
Using the Wheel for the Wrong Purpose
If you had a wheel and you only thought you could use it for a coffee table, you are unlikely to leverage the potential of the wheel, are you? Well the same is true of tools in general, and people often confuse tools with being the route to success. A shovel does not dig a hole, and a person would struggle to dig the hole with their hands, you need both of them and used correctly.
Learn to use the tools correctly to maximum effect.
Simply Too Arrogant?
If it is none of the above is the reason why you are not following a set system and working closely with your sponsor and those you have sponsored you are perhaps too arrogant for this business. This is perhaps a brash statement to make, but even if you muddle through, it is unlikely you will achieve duplication and thus will miss out on real success. For duplication to work it must be simple to teach and easy to repeat, and if you don't do this you are doing a dis-service to all those you introduce to the organisation whether they join or not.
Choose to work in a way that can be taught and is repeatable - this is key not just to your success but those you introduce.
