Background

You have read and understood about the power of duplication, and realise this is key to your success in network marketing. For you to achieve duplication you need to not only be set out on the right path, but you need to do the same for the person you sponsor, and that you show them how to do the same for the person they sponsor, indeed showing them how to mentor the person they sponsor to help the person they sponsor.

When you have achieved this, then the person you have sponsored is then more than able to stand on their own two feet. This article is about what is generally coined "Train the Trainer".

Teach A Man To Fish

As the old saying goes, give a man a fish and you feed them for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. This is a perfect metaphor for the need to live the train the trainer ethos, failure to understand this and you will forever be having to be fishing for them. Those that have read our article on the power of duplication understand that this is not scalable - indeed everyone that joins your team directly or indirectly will be dependent on you - sure you can get a bigger boat but that is not really your route to a passive income.

Remember that you only have so many hours in the day, and if you did it all yourself you will only be able to achieve so much. The point is that if you were going down the path of doing it all yourself you will burn out and never achieve the success that you deserve.

Three Generations

So you agree that training the trainer makes sense, so why is supporting three generations important, and if it is that important why not support five or even more? As they say a picture paints a thousand words, so lets use this as a starting point.

When Mark joins your team you need to make sure he starts off with the best start he could possibly have. This is important to Mark's success as thus is is important to yours.

Mark will need to be shown where to find out information about the products,  the company, and the support tools that the organisation has to offer, including running them through procedures and back office functionality.

Mark needs to learn how to draw up a candidate list, work through his warm market, learn the do and don't of running a business, and crucially how to invite people to our business opportunity.

Fiona came along to business opportunity presentation, or to a home business review at the invitation of Mark. She like you saw something great in our opportunity, and chose to join just like you did.

It is important that you show Mark how to get Fiona started correctly, how to guide her to start correctly in business. Making sure that Fiona gets the best start and it is that Mark that has provided it so if he sponsors someone else he will follow the same pattern of activity.

You know what, Fiona started down the correct path, she has introduced Emma, and like Fiona, like Mark and like you, she saw something good in the opportunity and joined the team. At this point you need to help Mark show Fiona how to show Emma to start off right in the business.

At this point you have now officially trained the trainer, you need not go any further as Emma sponsors Tom, as it is for Mark to show Fiona how she should help Emma to get Tom correctly started. If you were to interfere in this process you will actually bring into play a dependency on yourself that runs counter to the principle of duplication.

Should the need arise of course you can help further down the line, and indeed should something happen like for instance Fiona decide to leave the business you need to help Mark adopt Emma or adopt her yourself.
